Team’s handbook
Reading Polyglots’ handbook was very confusing at first, but once I understood the meaning of the words, it was very easy to read. The team’s handbook explains that Polyglots is a group of volunteers dedicated to the translation of WordPress into different languages around the world. The handbook also explains that WordPress has already been translated to all languages and it has preferences by region and culture.
It also helps you to get started in Polyglots and how to contribute to the team and to WordPress. You can translate WordPress by language and by dialects of different countries and regions. Reading the handbook may be boring, but if you are interested in translations and languages, you will progressively get more interested in to join the team. If you do so, you can click this button.
My First Contribution
Contributing in Polyglots is very easy to understand. You log in to your WordPress.org account first. Then, you go to the Polyglots team and click on the first link. There, you choose your language and locale and then, you can translate themes, plugins, and even WordPress itself. If you are a contributor and translate various strings, an editor must approve your translation first.
My first contribution were 259 strings translated from English to Costa Rican Spanish, although I were asked just to do 100. Honestly, I lost the sense of time and the count of the strings I did. I think I liked doing this translations, but it was not something to be happy while doing. I just think I’m quite good at it and I can continue doing this, although right now I just need two more hours of community work to finish the 30 hours I need. Some of the translations I did needed to be corrected, but I already did it.
My First Impression
I have not related too much with the rest of the Polyglots team. I just have seen that in Slack, there are often people saying that some translations need to be corrected. There are also many plugins or themes authors who want their creations to be translated. I also have not seen too much people joining either English and Spanish channels of Slack. Moreover, I think I will like being part of the group.
